Five MUST-ATTEND Events at New York Cider Week

CiderWeekNYClogoThe fifth annual NY Cider Week is set for November 6-15 in New York City (Yes, it takes 10 days to make a NY cider week). NY Cider Week gives the trade and consumers the chance to encounter and try a host of mainly New York-produced ciders, meet cider makers and experience a number of food and cider pairing events.

The week centers around a number of cider-related events and is a must-attend for cider lovers in the and around the New York City Area.

Cider Journal’s Top Five Cider Week Events that Should Not Be Missed:

1. CIDER SALON AT JIMMY’S #43
November 14 — Jimmy’s No. 43 — 43 East 7th Street, New York, NY 10003
A chance to meet cider superstars on hand to show off their ciders as well as seminars led by some of America’s most important cider authorities including Ben Watson and Eric West at this day-long event.

2. ASTOR CENTER’S APPLEPALOOZA 
November 11 — Astor Center — 399 Lafayette Street, New York NY 10003
A day-long event focusing on all things apple-related. Featuring more than 40 different pours of hard cider and unique apple spirit selections hailing from all over the world—New York to Normandy. Guests will enjoy Calvados, ice ciders, brandies, hopped ciders, sparkling ciders, and everything in between.

3. CASK NIGHT & MEET THE CIDER MAKER FEATURING EDEN CIDER’S ELEANOR LEGER
November 11 — Jimmy’s No. 43 — 43 East 7th Street, New York, NY 10003
Leger, proprietor of the famed Eden Cider (home to great ice ciders) will be on hand at Jimmy’s #43 to show off a “Special Cask” and meet cider lovers. Just about anything could be in this special cask. Eden is not only known for their amazing ice ciders, but now for a very good sparkling cider.

4. ORCHARD STREET CIDER FESTIVAL
November 8 — Orchard Street
On the appropriately named street on the Lower East Side there is going to be a three-block long farmer’s market and harvest festival featuring a community cider press where you can make your own, tons of great food, music, folk dancing, family activities and of course, cider from New York State orchards. Among the venues taking part are Gramercy Tavern, Huertas, Mission Cantina, Northern Spy, Txikito, Wassail, and Wildair.

5. ROWAN IMPORTS CIDER TASTING
November 6 — Vino Fine Wine and Spirits — 121 East 27th Street
Rowan Imports is one of America’s greatest distributors and importers of cider. They bring in ciders from across England, France, Spain, Germany and Ireland. And they distribute a number of outstanding U.S.-made ciders. This should be a fantastic and diverse tasting of ciders from around the globe.

    Too bad I’m in Seattle, as these sound awesome. Agreed that Eden makes some awesome dry sparkling cider, and Eleanor is great! Got to meet her at Cider Summit Seattle and at a special tasting event prior to it this year.
