A limited release from Oregon’s 2 Towns Ciderhouse, The Dark Current is produced with Northwest apples and the addition of black currants. The new cider pours with a clear, dark ruby profile and leaves the errant bubble on the rim. The aromatics here are spot on black currant, a dominating aroma that wafts up out of the glass with a certain driving determination. Though fermented in white oak, the cider also delivers up a notable vanilla component making it all a very sweet set of aromas. The flavor profile is true. Black currant flavors stand out, supported by citrus notes along with nearly hidden sour apple. The citrus is what lingers long after the swallow. This, along with a pretty decent acid profile, makes this a very refreshing drink. Make no mistake, however, this is sweet cider that will require a bit of chill or ice. Nonetheless, it’s another excellent addition to the 2 Towns ever-expanding lineup.
