The “Rhubarbarian”, a unique cider if there ever was one, begins with a crystal clear, pale yellow hue and sports big bubbles that cling. The aroma does indeed deliver rhubarb and in a way that reminds me of my mother’s homemade rhubarb pie. there is a muted strawberry character and smokey quality to the aromas with distinct muted apple notes. On the palate this cider is very piquant, effervescent and delivers significant does of acidity. The flavors are a combination of sour lemon, green strawberry, and an earthy character that isn’t a factor of brettanomyces. There is a challenge to try to bottle a rhubarb cider insofar as so few people know what rhubarb ought to taste and smell like. This is a refreshing cider that doesn’t try to trade on lots of sugar, but rather its intrinsic ingredients, which include both apple juice and rhubarb juice.
